Police backtrack, say Cardinals GM didn’t misidentify himself during DUI stop

The Raiders will relocate from Oakland to Las Vegas in 2020 after the NFL voted to approve the move last March.

Don Webb, CEO of StadCo, which is in charge of building the new stadium, told the Review-Journal on Saturday the $1.9 billion domed facility that holds 65,000 seats is about 15 percent completed.

The Jaguars acquired Dareus in a trade with the Bills in Oct. 2017. He played in nine game for Jacksonville tallying 29 tackles and two sacks.

LeSean McCoy has hired a defense attorney amidst allegations made by his ex-girlfriend’s defense attorney’s in a statement Tuesday.

The law firm of defense attorney Don Samuel confirmed to ESPN they were representing McCoy, but did not release a statment in reference to the allegations.

Long said it was only the second time in his career that he had a player punch in on a day off for extra reps (the other was Mark Teixeira). Over the past month, Harper has shaved his trademark beard, changed one of his walk-up songs — he ditched Sam Hunt’s Body Like A Back Road in favor of Drunk On Your Love by Brett Eldredge — and even taken ground balls at first base with infield coach Tim Bogar. While some viewed the grounder session as a marketing ploy meant to catch the attention of a Yankees club that’s loaded in the outfield (Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton) but lighter at first base (Greg Bird), agent Scott Boras insisted that wasn’t the case.

Oh, Terrell Owens makes a special guest appearance in the video. The 44-year-old wide receiver, who will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame next month, has been working out in hopes or returning to the sport. He hasn’t played in the NFL since 2010.

Former Giants defensive lineman Barry Cofield has been arrested and charged on multiple counts after allegedly leading police on a car chase in Florida Tuesday, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Cofield was found asleep in his vehicle at an intersection when officers tried to wake him, according to a police report. The 34-year-old was eventually roused and pulled through the intersection which allegedly started a chase.

In the incident in question, Cofield allegedly side-swiped a car and rammed a police vehicle before he was pulled over in a neighborhood.

When Cofield was detained officers stated he smelled of alcohol, though he allegedly refused to take a sobriety test. Officers then commenced in a search of his vehicle and allegedly found two bags of a red powdery substance which tested positive for heroin.

Leonard has made it clear he intends to sign with the Lakers, and the way things have unfolded has reduced their urgency to trade for him now.

The Lakers would have had to acquire Leonard via trade to fit him in at the max had they signed two max free agents (that is, James and George) to multiyear contracts. Dealing for Leonard at this point also was imperative if it was necessary to land James. With those scenarios seemingly off the table, the Lakers can afford to be more patient.

There’s still a downside to waiting on Kawhi, of course — that being the possibility that he gets traded to a new team and decides to re-sign there, just as George did in Oklahoma City. There’s value in the certainty of having Leonard in hand now, but that must be weighed against the players and picks the Lakers would have to give up to acquire him. I’d probably rather take my chances, particularly with the Lakers unlikely to win a championship this season even if they dealt for Leonard.

This model projects the Lakers to have an offensive rating 4.0 points better per 100 possessions than league average — identical to last year’s Cleveland Cavaliers. Meanwhile, unlike the Cavaliers during the regular season, the Lakers project to have an average defense.

And he’d go, ‘I got that in my back pocket,’ Guidry said. Because he was such a great leadoff hitter. He’d bunt, base hit, walk. But then in two pitches, he’d be on second.

And now get ready for the real kicker. Gilbert recently sat down with ESPN for a new digital series for FiveThirtyEight, Contracts, debuting later this summer. He said that Bonilla actually has another deferred deal with the Mets that makes another $12.5 million. It was part of his first deal with the team that ran from 1992 to 1996. The $29 million deal made Bonilla the highest-salaried player in baseball at the time. Part of the deal was to defer some money, which resulted in Bonilla getting $500,000 a year from 2004 through 2023. The Mets shipped Bonilla to the Orioles for the last season and a half of that deal, so they split the fare with Baltimore. How LeBron and the Lakers can become title contenders

Antonio Brown and several other teammates wore customized cleats in honor of Shazier.

I’m not worried about him playing for us again, I’m more worried about him, Steelers defensive coordinator Keith Butler said via the Post-Gazette. Y’all have been updated as much as we have. The thing that we’re hopeful for and prayerful for is that he comes back and he’ll be OK. The football stuff is secondary. His life is a lot more important to me than football.

I really have no update in terms of his medical status other than what was released earlier, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters. I would imagine at the appropriate time that those who are responsible for his care will give you a reasonable assessment of where he is. I imagine that would occur as soon as later on today.

That owner is likely Stephen Ross of the Miami Dolphins. On Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal published a report on Trump’s influence on the NFL’s new national anthem policy which forces any player who is on the field during the national anthem to stand and show respect for the flag.

I was totally supportive of [the players] until Trump made his statement, Stephen Ross, the Miami Dolphins’ owner and creator of programs advocating for social justice, said in his deposition. Noting that owners’ conversations with Trump were relayed during a league meeting, he said: I thought he changed the dialogue.

Even if all 32 owners came to the conclusion that Trump’s influence made signing Kaepernick a bullet not worth biting, that isn’t necessarily collusion. It could just be 32 teams making the same decision, just as they have with many other free agents who saw their NFL career end before they wanted it to.

There were only nine occasions throughout the entire 2014 regular season in which coaches kicked from the 1-yard line, but high-rolling Mike McCarthy decided to do it on back-to-back drives in the first quarter. Good decision-making.

Late in the third quarter, Wilson fumbled a snap from shotgun and recovered it. Nothing particularly abnormal about this play when isolated in a vacuum. But it’s yet another stroke of perplexing good fumble fortune for Wilson throughout the 2014 season. It was his 13th fumble of the regular season and postseason combined, and Seattle recovered every single damn last one of them. Not sure there’s been another instance of fumble luck even close to that glaring.

Up 12 with five minutes left, Morgan Burnett picked off Russell Wilson and had huuuuuuuuge amounts of green in front of him but decided he’d rather not deliver a knockout dagger. More good decision-making.

J.R. Sweezy visiting the Seahawks

Maybe you can go home again.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, former Buccaneers guard J.R. Sweezy is visiting the Seahawks, and taking a physical.

Of course, before Sweezy was a former Buc, he was a former Seahawk, as Seattle drafted him in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft. At that time, he was a former defensive tackle, before they converted him and he made 49 starts for them over four seasons.

After starting 1-10 in 2017, Jimmy Garoppolo led the 49ers to five consecutive wins to avoid a fourth straight season of the team going under its win total. Expectations have now been elevated for San Francisco, which needs to win nine games in order to hit its over in 2018. Keep in mind, this is a franchise that has been favored five times in 48 games since Jim Harbaugh left for Michigan.

At 40-1 to win it all in 2018, the Seahawks have the same Super Bowl odds as the Giants and Denver Broncos. Seattle also has the third-best odds in its own division. This is a far cry from recent preseason expectations for the Seahawks, who entered every season since 2014 as the odds-on favorite to win the NFC West.

Billy’s first-round talent and we’ve had more than one team tell us that, Kansas coach Bill Self told KUSports.com. But they haven’t seen him. [That] hurt him. There’s no question about that, as far as the draft goes. But what happens in 2018 isn’t going to define whether you’re a pro in 2026 and the objective is to have a career not a paycheck.

He was investigated by the NCAA after he was in an on-campus car accident. There were questions about the car he was driving.

Preston then signed overseas, joining BC Igokea of the Adriatic League. He played three games before suffering an injury that forced him to leave the Bosnian club.

It’s no secret 76ers guard Markelle Fultz struggled shooting last season, but according to his trainer Drew Hanlen, his shot is going to be perfect by the end of summer.

In an interview on the Talking Schmidt Podcast, Hanlen said Fultz had a case of the yips during his rookie season, but they have spent the offseason fixing his jumper.

With Markelle, obviously he has one of the most documented cases of kind of the yips of basketball in recent years, where he completely forgot how to shoot and had multiple hitches in his shot, Hanlen said, per PhillyVoice.com. So for me it was, hey listen, how can I get this kid that was No. 1 in last year’s draft back rolling and get him to the point where he was before, if not better?

Ty Blach and Cory Gearrin completed San Francisco’s 10th shutout of the season.

Overall just a well-played game, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. We got the hits, the runs to give us a cushion there and what a job Rodriguez did. He followed up a great start. He’s been throwing the ball terrific.

The Giants have won nine of 11 to pull into a tie with the Los Angeles Dodgers for second in the NL West, 3 1/2 games behind the first-place Diamondbacks. San Francisco can complete a three-game road sweep on Sunday.

Since returning from an 8-2 trip, the Diamondbacks have dropped two to the Giants by a combined score of 9-1.

James is currently on vacation with his family in Anguilla, and it is unclear whether he will return in time to take personal meetings with potential suitors this weekend or if he will allow his representatives, led by agents Rich Paul and Mark Termini of Klutch Sports, to run those meetings in his absence.

Even if James is involved in the meetings, he has no interest in hearing elaborate pitches from teams, ESPN reported this week. That represents a muted approach from the public courtship he took part in with a handful of teams in 2010.

Back in the outfield after an ineffective nine-game stretch as a designated hitter, Trout hit his 24th home run in the first inning off David Hess (2-5) to spark the Angels to their first win in a week. Trout reached base three times and ran down a liner in the gap to rob Danny Valencia of a potential fourth-inning double.

I like being out there, Trout said. It keeps me in the game.

Forced to play DH because of a sprained right index finger, Trout went 6 for 28 (.214) with 11 strikeouts and no homers.

He certainly is not acclimated to the DH role, and you wouldn’t expect an everyday player to be, manager Mike Scioscia said. It grounds on you.

Martin Maldonado also homered for Los Angeles, Andrelton Simmons had four hits and Felix Pena (1-0) allowed five hits over 5 1/3 shutout innings.

Like the Mariners before them, the Angels found facing the Orioles to be the cure for an extended slump. Earlier this week, Seattle notched a four-game sweep at Camden Yards after coming to town with six losses in seven games.

49ers, offensive lineman Laken Tomlinson agree to contract extension

The 49ers and offensive lineman Laken Tomlinson have agreed to a three-year contract extension, the team announced Friday. The deal is worth up to $18 million, according to a report from the NFL Network.

Niners agree to three-year extension with OL Laken Tomlinson, source says. Deal worth a max of $18m with $10m in guarantees.

With his mother’s memory deep in his heart every day, Prescott plans to be unrelenting in punching back against cancer.

The more I get involved, the more things I do, the more that people tell me I helped them through their fight, it’s same thing as hearing my mom say, ‘I’m proud of you.’ Prescott said It motivates me to keep doing more.

Ready. Raise. Rise is a good start to get involved. Prescott has another easy way for fans to increase their parts in the fight — by just being there for someone.

When you find somebody with cancer, just be loving and be helping in what they’re going through in the toughest time of their life.

The suspension stems from an alleged March 2016 incident with an Uber driver in Arizona in which she accused the Bucs QB of groping her. No charges were filed.

The text of Winston’s statement, via NFL.com:

The NFL informed me today that I will be suspended for the first three games of the season.

First and foremost, I would like to say I’m sorry to the Uber driver for the position I put you in. It is uncharacteristic of me and I genuinely apologize. In the past 2 1/2 years my life has been filled with experiences, opportunities and events that have helped me grow, mature and learn, including the fact that I have eliminated alcohol from my life.

Yankees ‘always open’ to trade help post-Masahiro Tanaka injury, Brian Cashman says

While the Yankees expect to fill the void Masahiro Tanaka ‘s injury has left internally, general manager Brian Cashman hasn’t put his cell phone on silent.

We’re always open to outside help, Cashman said before the Yankees faced the Mets at Citi Field on Saturday, no matter what time of the year it happens to be.

I’ll throw a month out there, I don’t know, the general manager said. Could be sooner, that could be long. But I’d rather under promise and over perform on everything if we can.

Sabathia wasn’t close to at his best. Still, it was enough to keep the Yankees in the game.

Over 5 1/3 innings, Sabathia struggled with his control, walking just one batter but giving up nine hits. He struck out four.

He was coming off one of his best outings of the year, a 7 2/3-inning, three-run effort vs. the Rays that ended in a loss. He’s 1-2 in his last three starts but he’s gotten just five runs of support over that span.

Instead, the Yankees’ powerful offense went mostly quiet in a 2-1 loss to Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field on the rare night it was mostly filled.

Middle-of-the-order hitters Giancarlo Stanton, Didi Gregorius and Gary Sanchez combined to go 0-for-10.

They entered the night with their offense in a deep skid, having scored the 10th most runs in baseball in June but the third most in the whole season. Meanwhile, the Rays churned out 10 hits.

Early favorite Peyton Barber averaged just 3.9 yards per attempt last year, while challengers Jacquizz Rodgers (only 3.8), Charles Sims (only 3.9 for his career) and Ronald Jones (a rookie second-round pick) aren’t blowing anyone away yet.

The receiving corps is deeper now because they’ve given themselves several relatively talented options to replace Bryant (Tavon Austin comes over from the Rams, Deonte Thompson from the Bills, Allen Hurns from the Jaguars and Michael Gallup from the third round of the draft). But none of those guys look as though they can be lead dogs out wide, and veterans Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley are also best-suited for complementary roles.

Why sent down Torreyes again?

Left fielder Brett Gardner has been dealing with a sore right knee, and even though he was feeling better by Monday and could be starting within a couple of days, the Yankees wanted to bring in Frazier to give them four healthy outfielders.

Basically it comes down to Gardy to a degree being a little questionable although he’s doing a lot better and we don’t think it’s a DL situation, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. So we just felt like we needed to be covered with an extra outfielder, so that forced us to make the swap out there.

Gardner was relieved after getting a precautionary MRI on Monday that just showed just inflammation.

Gardner is unlikely to play at all Monday – he pinch-hit in the first part of the suspended game on May 15 and he’s not starting the regular game – and he’ll probably be rested again Tuesday when the Yankees open a three-game series at home against the Seattle Mariners.

I feel like I’ll be able to play within the next day or two hopefully, Gardner said.

As the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline draws closer, it becomes more and more likely GM Sandy Alderson  will be selling off pieces of his team to contenders.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports the Mets are ready to wheel and deal, but with certain conditions:

The Mets are ready to entertain trade offers for virtually everyone on their roster, according to sources, but prefer to keep their best, controllable players — shortstop Amed Rosario, outfielders Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto, right-handers Seth Lugo and Robert Gsellman and yes, staff ace Jacob deGrom.

A team interested in deGrom would need to part with a boatload of talent, one source said. The Mets would be more open on right-hander Noah Syndergaard, who has not pitched since May 25 due to a strained ligament in his right finger. Syndergaard is under control through 2021, one year longer than deGrom. But as with deGrom, the Mets would not move Syndergaard unless they received an offer they deemed appropriate (which of course, describes every team’s approach to every trade).

Mickelson hits moving ball

Entering this year’s tournament, CEO Mike Davis was confident that the USGA would get the setup right this time, calling the 2004 event a double bogey for the organization.

Everybody works hard in the National Football League, but I think that we have something special about this group.

The return of receiver Pierre Garcon from injury and increased usage of tight ends Garrett Celek and George Kittle could aid the Niners’ pass offense in the compressed area of the field. The 49ers also hope a full offseason in Kyle Shanahan’s offense will help Jimmy G turn those field goals into touchdowns.

Defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who enters the final year of his contract on a fifth-year option, has missed the team’s offseason workout program with hopes for a new deal.

While the Rams would probably enjoy seeing how Donald and Suh work together, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips didn’t seem too concerned over Donald’s absence.

It’s something you can’t do anything about, Phillips told reporters Wednesday, via the Rams’ official website. I mean, I don’t stay up all night, every night.

It’s the business part of it. We feel like it will happen sooner or later — hopefully sooner — but he didn’t come until later last year and he did OK. I guess he fit in the 3-4; everybody was worried about that.

SDSO Lt. Michael Blevins told NBC 7 San Diego there were multiple alleged victims associated with the charges, but would not say how many.

The sixth overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft, Winslow played for four teams in nine seasons. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2007 as a member of the Cleveland Browns, when he caught 82 passes for 1,106 yards and five touchdowns.

Ocean Resort Casino, which plans to opens on June 28, is making its sports book the central focus of its casino floor. Hard Rock Casino, which is opening the same day, also plans to offer sports betting.

Erving will be joined at the kickoff event at the Borgata by Senate President Stephen Sweeney, D-Gloucester.

Dr. J will place the first bet at 11 a.m., about 30 minutes after the official start of sports gaming in New Jersey during an event with Gov. Phil Murphy at Monmouth Park racetrack.

MLB trade rumors: Mets willing to listen to offers for ‘virtually everyone on their roster’

New York opened the season 11-1 but has struggled since. It has dropped 12 of its last 15 games and currently holds a 30-38 record.

The Mets are ready to explore the possibility of dealing some of their top pieces, according to a report from The Athletic. They will listen to offers for virtually everyone on their roster, the report says.

Ogletree, happy to be with the Giants, tweeted Please keep Mr. Gettleman and his family in your thoughts. I know he will be stronger than ever when he returns!!

Following the draft, Gettleman began feeling fatigued, which at first seemed normal, considering he had been going so hard for so long. When the fatigue persisted, a full medical workup revealed he has cancer.

But the game really got interesting late.

Dylan Cozens blasted a two-run home run for the Phillies in the top of the ninth, and it looked like Philadelphia was going to get a huge road win. But Heyward, who has struggled in a Cubs uniform, had the last laugh.

With the win, the Cubs moved to 34-24, one game behind the Brewers for the NL Central lead, while the Phillies (32-27) fell 2 1/2 games behind the Nationals and Braves in the NL East.

My plan is to come in here every day and kick ass, Gettleman will say. That’s my plan, OK?

This was the vow he made Dec. 29, the day he was introduced as the Giants’ new general manager. Now the good-natured, 67-year-old kibitzer who is tasked with rebuilding a downtrodden franchise has a greater fight on his hands.
